Das Baby im Riesen / The Baby within the Giant

Hallo zusammen! / hey everybody!

Last sunday we had friends over visiting us. After the barbecue we all got comfy and sat and listened to him talking about his job. He is a professional opera singer (basso) at one of the top opera houses here in Germany. He told us about how he started singing, what he sings now and so on.

Schaut’s euch an…

At some point he mentioned that he’s a “baby-basso”. I looked at him from head to to and just grinned – he’s just so tall, a giant. More than 2 meters, not really skinny and with this booming voice. He then explained why he’s called a baby-basso – and I made a video about it. Just watch…

Great real-world example of the importance of ‘sticking with it’. If that Baby Basso just decided to stop today… he would never become the master he was destined to be.

    Thanks, Ben!

People will surprise you at times with hidden talents and abilities. We need to look for more of that in our lives. They are all around us…..we just need to “see” them!

Interesting story – we never know how things will turn out if we just persevere!

    Ben,
Your post reminds me so much of The Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell where he said you have to put in 10,000 hours at a minimum in order to be successful in any endeavor. “Baby-basso” knew that requirement and met it well!
Thanks for sharing such a valuable success story!
We look forward to more of your posts!

    Hi Ben!
You make such a significant point here! Especially on the internet, with 10 months under our belts, we think we should be old-timers. Yet, your friend is still a “baby” after 10 years of training!

Most professions take many, many years of hard work. This was a great reminder for me that I need to be patient.

    Guten Tag, Ben!

Okay, English now. :) One of my favorite Jim Rohn quotes is, “To become great, you must study, practice, and teach.” You reminded me of this in your message today!

    Danke, Ben!

    Hey Ben,

Great post my friend. Thanks for sharing this with us.
To many people want to get things without putting the work and effort into making it happen. 10000 hours is considered the amount of time it takes to become an expert at something.

Thanks again for sharing with us all.

    Make it a great day!
    God Bless,

    Ben,
Very great points about keeping on task and not giving up on your dreams. You gave me food for thought here. It’s not about the quick fix or the quick success, it’s about learning your craft and becoming the best you can become.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Val :)

    Ben,

With a passion and a burning desire to become the best at what it is we love to do can propel us to “take the time” to become the best at what we do… “the giant”.
Dedication to the chosen path is also essential… because as in the case of your friend… it doesn’t always happen overnight.

    Thanks,
    ~ Pat and Lorna
